[va-bird] Ft Belvoir CBC needing Voluteers, Jan 2, 2005

VA BIRDers,

The Ft Belvoir CBC, scheduled for this coming Sunday, Jan 2, 2005, is in need
of volunteers to fill many important locations.

Mt Vernon Sector: PJ Dunn covers the Mt Vernon and Woodlawn plantations,
Jackson Abbott Refuge and points in-between. Volunteers familiar with the
typical range of species, including sparrows, would make a great contribution
here, plus get to see parts of these historic places not publically seen.

Huntley Meadows Sector: Sherman Suter at this time has a total of 6 volunteers
in an area that produced over 80 species last year including Blue-winged Teal,
Pine Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, and Pine Siskin. And locations are still
left uncounted. Great opportunity for an enterprising team!

Mason Neck Sector: Linda Millington is in need of a few good forest and river
counters. Have fun figuring out Greater from Lesser Scaup and dig out those
Red-breasted Nuthatches!

Burke Lake Sector: Fairfax County's piedmont holds the best chances for hawks,
pipits, Horned Larks, Savannah Sparrows and White-crowned Sparrows. Volunteers
interested in helping Larry Brindza and Co on well-trod paths or cross country
treks will do well here - plus get a chance to see famous civil war sites of
skirmishes, spies, etc.

Neabsco Cr, Leesylvania SP and nearby locations: Do you think the Harris's or
Clay-colored Sparrow is back? Try your hand at IDing gulls for Lesser
Black-backed or California? Or just want to dig out a House Wren, Gray Catbird
or Wilson's Snipe? This is the place, join Marc Ribaudo and Jim Waggener's
group and have fun!

Live in Springfield? Then help out Rich Rieger and his crew finding riparian
specialties. Evening Grosbeaks may be lurking, owls are a good shot, and
perhaps the next feeder you pass will have a selasphorus!

If you have interest in helping, drop me a line at kurtcapt87 at aol.com or
give me a call at home, 703 768 2172.

Happy Holidays and Good Birds To All!
