After pigging out on shorebirds at Hunting Creek, I met Mike Iwanik at the sod
farms NW of Dulles Airport.
We had hopes of finding Buff-breasted Sandpipers. It was not to be.
All we found was a scattering of Killdeer, and not all that many at that.
Most fields have been dug out (exposed red clay being the norm), and the sod
that is there is so burned that I'm glad it's not on my
lawn!
DRY, DRY, DRY!
As advice, I'd say: DON'T BOTHER - until (or unless) it rains. The whole
environs reminds one of a desert (did I mention the HEAT?!)
Let's hope conditions change soon!
