[va-bird] Fredericksburg

I saw a Yellow-throated Warbler and a Red-eyed Warbler today in the woods off Elys Ford Road. Both were calling but were somewhat difficult to spot as the leaves are really ahead of schedule.

At Alum Springs Park I heard a Black-throated Green Warbler when I got out of the car. I followed its voice to a sweet gum tree where it was feeding. It was my first of spring.

After work I listened for Yellow Warblers along the Canal Path where I saw many last year. I saw White-throated Sparrows and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and a Canada Goose that swam expectantly toward me when I walked out on the boardwalk. Someone must be feeding it. Two pairs of Wood Ducks and two drake Mallards and a hen paddled the canal. A Common Yellowthroat pair came out of the weeds almost at my feet to investigate the strange noises I was making. I finally heard, then saw my FOS Yellow Warbler before the gnats completely devoured me.
