Hello Everyone,
Few migrants today at Fort Smith Park in Arlington, but I had my first of
Fall WINTER WREN near the bird stream (beware of the lail-less Carolina Wren).
Most amazingly, there was a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW in the area of the meadow
behind the stream near the parking lot, representing my first for the county.
The meadow being allowed to grow has had a marked and very positive impact on
the avian diversity of the park. It appears to be looked at as a suitable
migration stopover point for bobolinks and other grassland birds flying over
the nation's capitol.
