Steve Young's post on the 24th mentioned Fish Crows. Recently I too have
remarked on seeing and hearing so many at one time. Our house in
Clifton is only one quarter mile from Bull Run. On winter afternoons we
always see a steady stream of crows flying east. This is a mixed flock,
but usually there is little vocalization so it is difficult to assess
the proportions of the two species in it. This flock has been notably
vocal. Three afternoons now around three o'clock I have been outside
and heard mostly Fish Crow calls, although there are definitely some
Common Crows as well. I don't know if someone has located the roost
they are heading towards. I believe that in past years it has been
inside the Beltway in northeastern Fairfax County.
