Howdy all,
If anyone reading this post needs GRAY CATBIRD for their life list or for
their state list, may I recommend trying First Landing State Park for a chance
at
picking up one of these elusive gray ghost mimids of the understory. With a
keen ear and a sneak approach, one might be able to first locate the bird by
its very soft, almost inaudible warble, then located the bird as it sits
motionless in a very dense bush. Or you could just show up at the park and try
not to
hit one with the car! Yes, they are everywhere.
Another highlight for the day was that out of all the birds we banded today,
BLACKPOLLS were our number two most common capture!!! I never thought I would
ever say that!
It was another beautiful day today! I hope it continues.
Totals for the day:
GRAY CATBIRD 30
BLACKPOLL WARBLER 2
BLACK-AND-WHITE 1
C.YELLOWTHROAT 1
BLACK-THROATED BLUE 1
SWAMP SPARROW 1
WOOD THRUSH 1
N. CARDINAL 1
EASTERN TOWHEE 1
TOTAL ------------------------------------- 39
My prediction for tomorrow.....uummm.......more catbirds?? Possible??
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
