Hi Everyone,
Thank you to all that sent me information on where to bird around the Virginia
Beach Area. I know I missed some wonderful places. I was with my husband and
son, so we spent some time doing non-birdie things. I'll post some of the
highlights.
First Landing State Park:
Pine Warblers
Northern Parula
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Brown Creepers
Brown-headed Nuthatches
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
Common Loon-2
Bufflehead-22
Horned Grebe-2
Little Blue-2
Snowy Egret-2
Great Blue-several
Glossy Ibis-8
Red-breasted Merganser-1 at Boat Dock and 7 at beach at FLSP
Greater Yellowlegs-1
Hermit Thrushes
Sanderlings-one Sanderling was banded with one yellow band on one leg and a
green band with a tab on the other leg
Bonaparte's Gulls at beach at FLSP
Kingfisher-2
Osprey-6
Bald Eagle-1
Pileated Woodpeckers
Red-bellied Woodpeckers

Virginia Beach Board Walk:
Clapper Rail-1 I was surprise to see it walking between the bike path and the
boardwalk

Great Dismal Swamp (only did a small portion of Jericho Ditch and Washington
Ditch Boardwalk):
Prairie Warbler
Black and White Warbler
Ovenbird
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Catbird
White-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
Pileated Woodpecker
Downy
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Kingfisher
Hermit Thrush
Black Vulture-3 flying very tightly together, looked like black flower petals
slowly spinning (didn't realize you get them there)

Battleship Wisconsin-noticed one Cliff Swallow

Met some nice people along the way! Loved it, pretty area except for too many
shopping centers. Wish more area would have been protected. Man it was cold,
that also slowed us down abit.

Thanks Again and Happy Birding,
Kim Kazmierski
