Howdy all,
Today was a beautiful day at First Landing SP here in Va Beach. Lots of bird
activity early in the morning. Wish it would have equated to more birds in the
nets, however. We only banded a total of 8 birds today. A little bit of a
disappointment considering what all was around. We had a singing NORTHERN
PARULA
near the banding station and then found another on our walk out. Also had
several BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS around the station today as well. Good number of
TREE SWALLOWS cruised over head through most of the morning. Although we didn't
catch any of these birds, the ones we did catch all pretty much were pretty
chunky (fat) meaning that they were probably new birds to the area or are
getting ready to move north.
Back at the house later this afternoon, we had a YELLOW PALM WARBLER working
the back yard along with three CHIPPING SPARROWS. Still a few GNATCATCHERS
around the yard as well.
Totals for 4/2:
Golden-crowned Kinglet 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Hermit Thrush 4
Mourning Dove 1
Total ------------------------------- 8
Spring is coming! Afraid it is going to be a fast one!
Cheers,
