Howdy all,
So this post is a little different. We did not band today because of the rain
falling early this morning and the forecast of high winds. The rain, I guess,
never really became a problem, but the winds stayed gusty (to 26mph) all
morning. So I took the day off. I felt like a slack later in the afternoon when
I
was eating a bowl of gumbo about 4pm and had a big flock of BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHERS move through the yard. High count was 7 but I would not be
surprised if
there were 20+ in the area. Afterwards, a walk through some of the park turned
up a NORTHERN PARULA and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. Several more GNATCATCHERS were
seen as well. 10 HERMIT THRUSHES were the only thrushes seen. No sign of
Prothonotary or Yellow-throated Warblers yet. But They could easily be here. An
EASTERN SCREECH-OWL whinnied up a little at dark, and so did the SPRING PEEPERS.
GREEN FROGS were numerous and we heard at least 6 CARPENTER FROGS.
I have high hopes for tomorrow as long as the winds stay down. Migrants are
here and many more to come!!
Cheers,
Jethro
