Howdy all,
Today was pretty much a slow day. But the warbler diversity was pretty good.
The most unusual was a male CHESTNUT-SIDED. But probably the most unusual bird
of the day was a NORTHERN BOBWHITE that was calling (and no, not a Starling
or Mockingbird either). A few days ago he made a flyby and I was very surprised
and now he was calling from the area. The banding station is NOT quite
Bobwhite habitat!
We caught a YELLOW WARBLER that was a first for the season and was our 25th
warbler species we have banded here this season. If you include a NORTHERN
PARULA recapture today, halfway through the morning, we had banded 8 species of
warblers with only a total of 14 birds captured! Nice start, but turned ugly
after that.
Not much else today, it was pretty quite.
Totals for the day 5/15:
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 1
Black-and-white Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1 first of the season, warbler species 25
for the station
Ovenbird 1
Northern Waterthrush 1
Common Yellowthroat 3
Swainson's Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 5
Northern Cardinal 1
Common Grackle 1
American Goldfinch 2
TOTAL ------------------------- 19
