[va-bird] Fauquier and Culpeper Counties, Sunday, 25 Feb (LALO, GWFG)

Hola,

About six inches of snow covered the ground after Sunday's storm around
here, and a couple of the fields that I looked at had some uncommon birds.
Near
Jeffersonton, Culpeper County along Myers Mill Road near the Fauquier County
line and the Rappahannock River, there was a flock of about two thousand
Canada Geese. Among these were two adult Greater White-fronted Geese. There
have been geese on this field off and on all winter, but never as many, and I
hadn't seen any thing other than Canada Geese among them.

At Remington, Fauquier County, the snow was enough to cover the fields and
push the birds to edges of the plowed roads, as well as making them easier to
find on the white fields. Horned Larks were common, there were a few dozen
American Pipits, and two Lapland Longspurs. I also saw a few dozen Wilson's
Snipe. About two dozen were in one wet spot in a field along Sumerduck Road,
along with a dozen or so Killdeer. The dapper killdeer and the somewhat
sloppy looking snipe are sort of odd to see next to each other. Snipe were
also
standing around in the street, on fence posts, and on a couple parked cars.
I guess they don't like standing in snow. There were dozens of Savannah
Sparrows around too.

Cheers,
