[va-bird] Falls Church VA: Common Redpoll Tues 25 Jan

Craig Faanes contacted me about a Common Redpoll that he encountered in
Falls Church this afternoon. Because he is not subscribed to VA-BIRDS,
he asked me to post the news. He knows the bird well from banding
during his career as a wildlife biologist.

> If you wouldnt mind would you post a note alerting folks to a lone
(lonely?) Common Redpoll at about 4:10
> this afternoon in a pine tree near the "B" building at the Oakwood
Apartments in Falls Church where i live
> (501 Roosevelt Blvd - by 7 corners). I heard its distinctive call
and then looked up to see the bird as I was
> returning from working out in the gym. We made contact, it didn't
like what it saw, and promptly flew off
> into the cemetary directly behind Oakwood Apartments where I would
imagine its hanging out now.

> Given the incursion of northern birds this winter all over the
eastern half of the country I'm not surprised
> that this bird was here. What is surprising is that its taken so long
for one to be found in VA this winter.
