VA BIRDers,
Since LA Waterthrush does not breed at Dyke Marsh, obsevations of this species
at Dyke results in migration dates that are not clouded by other factors. I
consulted the old database and find the fall dates range from June 27 to August
19, with several occuring in the first half of July. I have a note on a record
from the week of August 27 that I am trying to pin down, although such a late
record generates skepticsm given No. Waterthrush arrival in our area in
mid-August. My personal late date is August 14 out in Prince William Forest
Park; the next is a bird at Dulles Wetlands on August 10th.
Trying to push back the late dates of this, and other species, is an
interesting endeavor as it leads one to an enhanced understanding of habitat-
species relationships, etc. And it gets your name into the next issue of
Virginia Birding! (yep, shameless plug!)
