[va-bird] Fairfax Co: Dyke Marsh: Sunday 23 January

No doubt due to the weather, no one else showed up for the Friends of
Dyke Marsh walk yesterday.  Despite the cold, viewing conditions were
much better than they had been early Saturday afternoon, so I took the
usual route before wandering up to the Stone Bridge and checking the
Hunting Creek flats.

23 January 2005: 0800-1130 EST
scoping mouth of Hunting Creek and Potomac River from Belle Haven
Picnic Grounds; along shore to S end BH Marina; down Haul Rd, out to N
tip and return; then (1015-1130) N along bike path to Hunting Creek
bridge to check flats east and west of GW Parkway.
-10 to -8 C; patches of blue sky early, giving way to complete overcast
(no direct sun through AM); winds 10 to 30 km/hr NNW, gusting to
50+km/hr;  6 cm snow on ground; ice on Hunting Creek flats, through much
of Dyke Marsh, throughout Marina cove W of point and Haul Rd cove W of
entrance;  loose chunks and sheets of ice on Potomac, strong flow in
main channel; high tide c 0650, low tide c 1300;
