On a 3-hour walk in my neighborhood this morning, there were good numbers of
some of the more uncommon winter birds.  I saw my first Brown Creeper of the
season, not just one but 5 of them!  I also saw 6, yes 6 Red-Breasted
Nuthatches, making them nearly more numerous than the White-Breasted!  I
encountered 3 Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers, and added sightings of all 6 other
woodpeckers for my second Woodpecker sweep in 10 days!  Other highlights
were a Pine Warbler, Savannah and Swamp Sparrows, and several each
Golden-Crowned and Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, making for a very enjoyable fall
morning, if somewhat breezy.  An oddity: I came across what appeared to be a
large white soccer ball, and it turned out to be a huge unblemished
mushroom!
