A dozen people tullrned out on a clear and sunny morning for the weekly Sunday
morning Dyke Marsh bird walk. Top bird honors went to a Merlin which performed
a fly-by appearance over the marsh. The late stage of the autumn migration was
signaled by a Winter Wren, several Kinglets of both species, and scads of
Yellow-rumped Warblers. An adult Bald Eagle circling low overhead in the
sunshine shortly before the walk ended provided a nice finishing touch. The
list appears below.
The Dyke Marsh bird walks, sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and fee
to all, occur a 8 am each Sunday morning. The walks begin at the south end of
the Belle Haven parking lot, located on the east side of the Geo. Washington
Parkway, just south of downtown Alexandria.
