The kids don't get up as early on Christmas they used to, so I had some time in
this morning to watch bird activity in the yard while wating for my teenagers
to awaken. Things started well with an Orange-crowned Warbler and a Nashville
Warbler, both of which have been hanging out here since Thanksgiving, makng an
appeance. After a little while a flock of a dozen or so wigeon flew by and
settled in the water. I was able to get my scope on them an was pleased to
sight a drake Eurasian Wigeon cruising by, a most excellent addition to the
yard list and a nice Christmas present for me. The ducks were all in a small
cove off of Catalpa Street in the Larchmot area of Norfolk. There are quite a
few coves in this portion of the Lafayette River, so the Eurasian Wigeon may
pop up in any one of them.
Merry Christmas everyone!
