Hello all,
After a morning which started out with a robin/cowbird battle on my front
lawn, followed by having someone stop by to steal some flowers from my front
goldfinch garden, I took a short jaunt to the pond at Eleanor Lawrence Park.
With not enough time to go over to the trail at Little Rocky Run behind
Cabell's Mill, I took the short circuit around the pond, which is very
picturesque with blooming raspberries, water lilies in bloom, and the purple
flowers
in the rushes and the swamp milkweed opened up. Bullfrogs accompanied.
A small but pleasant group showed up:
red bellied woodpecker
northern waterthrush ( feeding and jumping across the lily pads and then
fighting with a red-winged blackbird on the ground across the road)
eastern phoebe
canada geese 7 with one young fluffer included in the bunch
immature cardinals tntc
carolina wren
cowbird
red-winged blackbird pairs tntc
Though I can usually hear the indigo buntings across the road at the
mill house site, there were none in evidence today, perhaps due to traffic or
airplanes overhead.
The overcast morning was a good time to be here and not in the office!
Enjoy your weekend
