After dropping my wife and son off at Dulles earlier today I decided
to brave the cool and damp weather to see what if anything was going
on at Eleanor Lawerence Park (intersection of Route 28 and I-66 in
Centreville).
I only had about 45 minutes but it was quite birdy. The two real
highlights for me were a WILSON's WARBLER and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER.
The Red-headed was harassing a female Red-bellied. Also of interest
was that the Red-headed was in the middle of dense woods. I have only
previously seen them in more open areas.
Other birds of interest:
VEERY
MAGNOLIA WARBLER
BLACKPOLL WARBLER (lots of these still around)
OVENBIRD
CANADA WARBLER (female)
SCARLET TANAGER (at least 2 males)
