[va-bird] Eiders, White-faced Ibis, etc.

Cape Charles Beach's town jetty now has 2 female Common Eiders. Todd Day
kayaked out to the jetty and around it and found 2 this afternoon, confirming
it
by scope later in the day, when both were scoped resting on the riprap over at
Bayshore Concrete Products, on the far side of the harbor. Rob Hilton, Tom
Saunders, Brandy Warman-Day, and Steve Hairfield have also seen 1-2 eiders here
over the past several days.

At Chincoteague, an adult White-faced Ibis put on a marvelous show in Snow
Goose Pool right next to the Wildlife Loop around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, noted by
Hilton, Day, and myself (and seen 2 days prior by Jerry Via and Bill Akers,
who also saw Marbled Godwit, a male Wilson's Phalarope, some White-rumped
Sandpipers in Swan Cove). Though there were as many as 220 dark ibis (and six
White
Ibis, remarkably!) around, the White-faced was closest to the loop; another
distant ibis could have been White-faced as well, but the heat and haze were
too much for us. I suspect Chincoteague could well have a few different
White-faced each year. Shorebirds were few; other than about 20 Short-billed
Dowitcher, I think we saw only Killdeer, Semi Plover, Willet, 2-3 Black-necked
Stilts, and some oystercatchers.
