Hello VAbirders,

Marc's post below reminds me to note that Peter Stangel's Conservation
Corner in the July/August WildBird Magazine is an interview with Jim
Waggener.  Check out page 63 to learn more about Jim and his successful
quest to save what is now Occoquan Bay NWR.  Thank you Jim, and also all
who helped in the project.

I birded eastern Prince William Saturday, taking part in a count
organized by Jim Waggenner.  I birded Quantico Marine Base, Quantico
Creek area, Leesylvania SP, Metz wetlands, and Occoquan NWR. ......etc........
I don't know if Jim is going to post the final count, but I believe
around 140 species were counted in all.  In addition to the areas I
birded, parties also visited Veteran's park, Prince William Forest Park,
and parts of Occoquan NWR not generally open to the public.
