I was very fortunate yesterday, 4/8, to be able to enjoy the
companionship and expertise of Jeff Blalock as I invited myself down to b=
ird
Halifax County. It was cool and windy, but we enjoyed a 66 specie day.=0D
Most of the area we covered was either wetlands or Stanton River sight=
s,
and believe me, the ducks are gone. The only waterfowl we had were 2
Mallards, 1 Am. Black Duck, and 10-15 Wood Duck, along with 1 PB Grebe an=
d
about 3-4 C. Loons.=0D
Birds of note included;=0D
At Stanton River State Park, flying over the river, Purple Martins and=
4
Swallow species, including several Cliff Swallows.=0D
At the same location, responding to a Screech Owl imitation, a singing
Yellow-throated Vireo made an appearance.=0D
We had no Bitterns, and no Mississippi Kite, although when we got to t=
he
Kite spot and made our initial scan I am almost certain=0D
a single bird dropped into the trees, as if he felt he was being watched.=
We
never saw it again though.=0D
As far as warblers, tons of Pine, several Yellow-Rumps, 6-7
Yellow-Throated, and a pair of Common Yellowthroats. No Palms of Black an=
d
Whites, which I anticipated.=0D
All in all, a great day at a great location. Thanks Jeff.=0D
