VA-Birders,
Belted Kingfishers are attempting to nest at Dyke Marsh--the first
time it has been documented there. I believe Ed Eder was the first to
report and photograph the activity at two holes being excavated in
the root ball of a tree at the Belle Haven Marina. I got a shot today
of the male standing watch near the nest hole. Witnessed the pair
flying in and out of the hole. Hopefully, more interesting activity
will follow.
Ospreys at the Belle Haven Marina are warding off interlopers,
putting the finishing touches on their nest, and bringing in some
kind of wet vegetation, presumably to line the nest.
Already sitting on eggs are the Ospeys at Ford's Landing in Alexandria.
