Adam D'Onofrio and I birded several coastal spots yesterday
(Monday 3/22) including Craney Island,Ft. Story,CBBT,Oyster,
Willis Wharf, and ESVNWR. Highlights of the trip were:
Eared Grebe at Craney- with 5 Horned Grebe along the east side
near the south crossdike; the Eared was in partial breeding plumage
sporting orangish "ear tufts", all dark (blackish) neck, and dark sides.
The bird was noticibly smaller and more compact than the Horned Grebes
and the rear was held high exposing white undertail coverts and giving
the bird a bowed back appearance.
Thayer's Gull at Ft. Story (on beach near the light)-first winter
Lesser Black-backed Gull- same as above
Harliquin Duck CBBT #4- 1 adult mal,1 female,1 first winter male
Common Eider- 6 CBBT #4
White Ibis- 15 at ESVNWR at pond on ramp road
Merlin at Craney
NO Marbled Godwits at either Willis Wharf or Oyster
Good Birding,
