Birders,
Another gee-whiz trip, this time to the Eastern Shore, hoping for the Cape
Charles Painted Bunting at Ned Brinkley's B&B. No luck. (I see the bird has
returned!) I waited and looked at Ned's place for 3/4 hour or so, then
checked
the neighbors with feeders on the street behind him (Tazewell). No luck
still.
After a half hour or more of this, I expanded my search area and still no
luck.
The Rufous Hummingbird is still at the B&B - got good looks at her, at the
feeder
and in a tree nearby.
It was so foggy, the birding was just awful. At noonish, it looked like it
was clearing
and so I headed back to the CBBT for the trip home. Of course if fogged
right u p again once I'd left Fisherman's Island. But it did start to clear
a bit and I stopped
and Islands 2, 3 and 4. Ducks are WAY down. Some scoters, both Black and
Surf, but no White-winged. Some scaup, mostly Lesser. One Island #4, I
noticed a large number (100 at least) Purple Sandpipers; there were lesser
numbers on the other islands. They seemed restless and possibly are staging
for the big push north. Also seen were the 3 Harlequins - ladies resting on
the
rocks on the east side of #2, and several Great Corms, looking quite spiffy in
their new clothes. One gannet seen, plus one Merlin.

PS Sorry for the late posting, but I was exhausted from the trip! I used to
be a lot younger -
