Greetings,
Just about every step was an effort this morning in the steam bath along the
Potomac.
Highlights at Dyke Marsh included: Yellow-throated Warbler and
Yellow-breasted Chat (post-breeding dispersal?), YB Cuckoo, RT Hummer, Marsh
Wren (2), Swamp Sparrow (in phrag patch), and both Orioles. Speaking of the
phrag patch, the YT Warbler and YB Chat were found here, so it was certainly
a birdy patch. Earlier, a YT Warbler (same?) was seen along Haul Rd., about
midpoint. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were scattered throughout.
Over at Hunting Creek, the Short-billed Dowitcher numbers have grown to four.
Unlike yesterday's count, the Lesser Yellowlegs numbered about 50 with 12
Greater Yellowlegs, Spotted s/p (1), Pectoral (1), Semi-palmated s/p (5), and
Least s/p (13).
A stop at Cameron Run on the way home yielded a Little Blue Heron (juvenile).
Despite the heat, I did enjoy the fall migration, now underway!
