Well - after being snowbound and workbound ( I hate it when that happens), I
was able to get a walk in at Dyke Marsh (Alexandria) this a.m. - best birds
were on the river w. all three mergansers present - # of Common Mergs is down
but still a nice assemblage with a fair # of RB Mergs mixed in. About 6
Hoodies completed the trifecta. Nice treat was 3 Horned Grebes (still in
basic plumes) in the small gut, south of Haul Road...Lesser Scaup still
around w. at least one Greater mixed in - two BW Teal cruised by the last
boardwalk platform, headed into the Marina bay. Also present were the Coots,
Buffleheads, Ruddies and assorted Mallards. Looks like we've lost another
osprey nest to winds. The nest on the snag south of the boardwalk, visible
from the first platform, is gone...Rich Rieger
