VA BIRDers,
Please accept my apologies for this tardy note. The regular Sunday morning
Field Trip at Dyke Marsh, sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and free to
all, had a delightful day this past Sunday and spotted a few migrants. Best
were the oriole displays with many Orchards and Baltimores well seen by the
group of about 12 observers. The next most abundant species was Eastern
Kingbird, also clearly moving south. We also tallied a Yellow Warbler, a
couple of E. Wood Pewees, an Eastern Phoebe (migrant), many gnatcatchers,
several Gray Catbirds, and a Brown Thrasher. We noted at least 10
southbound Barn Swallows overhead.
Species missed this time around compared to last week (14 Aug) were singing
Marsh Wrens, a small group of Cedar Waxwings, Common Yellowthroat and Indigo
Bunting.
