VA-Birders,
Perfect weather and a nice assortment of birds--some on their way
south, some on their way north, and some here to stay-- were enjoyed by
10 of us this morning on the regular Sunday AM walk at Dyke Marsh.
Prior to the 8 AM starting time, I stopped at the stone bridge over the
GW Parkway and saw the skies filled with Laughing Gulls flying from the
river to the only exposed mud flat in Hunting Creek. Ring-bills are
enjoying the new piers in place there for the new Rt. 1 interchange,
but they'll be disappointed when a road is placed on top. The Northern
Shovelers may have been new arrivals, while the BG Gnatcatcher will
have to step it up and grab the next northerly breeze south. The little
smattering of warblers, except for the Yellow-rumps will be out of here
soon too. Enjoy these beauties while you can!
