Overcast skies and a light breeze from the SW made for a (relatively)
comfortale morning for the Walkers of the Marsh this Sunday at Dyke Marsh,
Alexandria...the humidity kept things a bit steamy and it was definitely
mid-summer as the birds went quietly about their business. High point of the
day came when Larry Cartwright was able to confirm a fledged Common
Yellowthroat (F) at the tip of the peninsula, bringing the confirmed number
of breeding birds to 42 for this season...one of the best on record...(thanks
to the extra eyes of Mary Carrol and Stuart for the help on stalking the
CoYe) - Larry, Stuart and I went over to the mudflats on Hunting Creek after
the walk (approx 11am) and added a few shorebirds to our list - birds seen
only at the mudflats are indicated w/ an H - please feel free to join the
Sunday morning walkers -8 a.m. - at Dyke Marsh - one mile south of Old Town,
Alexandria, along the GW Parkway...here's the list
