One thing nice about living out in the country is hearing/seeing the
Woodcocks do their late-winter rituals in our front yard. But while
sitting on the porch waiting for the evening shows to start, I always hear
a number of familiar sounds that start just around dusk. I
got Chuck-Wills-Widow one night, as there are unmistakable.
As a novice, my birding-by-sight skills are just developing, but my
birding-by-ear skills are very poor. I've got the various bird CDs/album
(Stokes, etc) to help, but I need some guidance.
Does anyone have a short list of the most common dusk/evening/night birds
that commonly call in this region? This would help narrow it down so I can
search my CD better.
Thanks,
