Has anyone ever heard of mourning doves and rock pigeons hybridizing? We've
had a strangely colored mourning dove here in our yard for a few days. Its
shape and mannerisms are that of a dove, it sounds like a dove, and it hangs
out with doves. It is very slightly larger, though. One wing has normal
dove coloration, but the rest of the bird has pigeon colors--a mix of white,
brown, black, pink, etc. The bill is more like a pigeon--pink at the base
and dark at the tip. When the bird flies, there is a wide white band going
across each wing.
