I have flown a lot since 9/11 with tripod & scope -- I ways put the tripod
in a dufflebag with clothing & other gear around it, and carry the scope on
in a bag with my bins & camera gear. biggest problem I've had was in Duluth
with matchs in my emergency kit in the backpack (which was there only
because if I leave it there I never forget it). hiking boot equally likely
to cause delays. and I've found that it is in the very little airports that
I get the most through scrubbing -- Nome was a kick. jck

Subject: [va-bird] Done any traveling with scope & tripod?
I apologize for being slightly off topic, but, for me, this approaches the
CBBT problem.
Next week, I plan to fly to southeast Arizona, and I would like to
take along my scope and tripod as carry-on luggage; however, I've heard
that even people with canes have problems getting on planes.
Is there a TSA policy on tripods? Has anyone had any experience
carrying on a tripod? Should I pack my expensive (for me!) tripod in my
luggage and risk losing it?
Thanks,
Bill
