Greetings,
I found three singing Dickcissels this morning in Calverton, along Old
Weaversville Rd. (Rt. 618), off of Bristersburg Rd. (Rt. 616). To get to this
spot,
take Bristersburg Rd. south, off of Rt. 28. Go about 2/3 mile and take a left
onto Old Weaversville Rd., following the road about 1/4 mile as it turns
sharply right. Continue until you see three short, fat silos on the left (east)
and
park along the roadside. One bird was heard near the barn area, another was
seen on the power line along the road, and another was seen in the field on the
west side, close to the road. I was there for 30 minutes and didn't encounter
any traffic.
I haven't explored this area before and as I was driving along Bristersburg
Rd., something told me to turn onto Old Weaversville Rd. As soon as I got out
of the car, a N. Bobwhite stolled off into the ditch. Several each
Yellow-breasted Chats and Brown Thrashers gave me *what for*. Then I noticed
the first
Dickcissel, on the power line...
