Do you have cats roaming your neighborhood? They would be a likely culprit.

Subject: [va-bird] Decapitate nestling
Listmates:
This morning I observed a pair of quite agitated Mockingbirds in the side
yard. I wondered what was the cause of the commotion and found a decapitated
nestling on the ground under the Crape Myrtel bush that holds their nest.
Another nestling was still in the nest. Does anyone have any ideas what could
have done this? Could it have been a Screech Owl?
Thanks,
Phil
