My husband and I did a bit of post xmas combat shopping and then to reward
ourselves took a field trip down to the A&I bulding to see if the Rufous
Hummer was still in town.
We got there about 11:30 a.m. and about 10 mins later - she showed up to
patrol her territory. What a wonderful Boxing Day present. We stayed about
an hour and she came and went a number of times but sure seemed settled into
a routine, hawking from the same branch in a "Crimson Beauty" bush and then
going over for a sip from the hummer feeder. She did this routine a number
of times while we watched and enjoyed.
While we were quitely watching the hummer patrol I heard some rustling in
the leaves just behind the hummer feeder against the A&I building. And
there was the ovenbird. Not only did I get to see it but we got magnificant
"audobon" views that looked just like the Sibley pictures. Fantastic. I
never in my life thought I would get such a perfect view of an ovenbird.
Thank you to everyone who has kept us up to date on the hummer (and
ovenbird). I am so thrilled to have seen this life bird today. Gives me
high hopes for 2004.
Happy Birding to all.
