Hi VA Birders,
Thanks for your responses. Paul, don't kick yourself too hard, but I saw
the hummer again (briefly!) at 12:35, after returning from the Smithsonian
Butterfly Garden. It was once again on its favorite patch of deep blue
Salvia. As I fumbled with my camera, it disappeared, probably to a high
perch where it could laugh at me.<g> I waited around for as long as I
could (almost 30 minutes), watching my lunch hour drain away. Did patience
pay off? Well ... no, not in this case. But it may still be around. I
probably won't get another chance to look for it today, as I've picked up
an urgent project. It does make some sense that it's still hanging around,
with the surprising number of flowers still available. I'm glad to hear of
the two others as well. Of course, if it's not a Ruby-throat, it may be
hanging around for even longer, which is what I had hoped to determine...
