VA Birders,
Today while taking down some bluebird nest boxes for repairs my wife, Lynda and
I also did some birding in the Breaks VA area, not far from the Breaks Park.
One of the highlights of the day was observing both Black-billed and
Yellow-billed Cuckoos within minutes of each other. They were in a bushy area
along a small stream in the middle of a large field. Both gave us good looks.
In the same general area a large Red-tailed Hawk circled up from the trees and
later a Red-shoulded Hawk came up from a nearby ridge.
Savannah, Song and Swamp Sparrows were found in the thick undergrowth and both
Carolina and House Wrens were working the same bushy area as the cuckoos.
Only one Rose-breasted Grosbeak was found, as well as four Yellow-rumped
Warblers.
