I visited Craney Island yesterday and today.
Yesterday's highlights included 15 American Avocets, 9 Red-necked
Phalaropes, and 4 Black Terns -- all in the vicinity of the pool at the west
end of the south impoundment. Also saw a Common Nighthawk over the
southeast end of Craney.
Today, there were 12 American Avocets, 3 Wilson's Phalaropes, and 4 Black
Terns -- all at the pool at the west end of the south impoundment. There
also was a Whimbrel in the mowed area along the north edge road at the north
end of Craney. Northern Pintails and Savannah Sparrows have shown up in the
last week or so and there are many ducks in the pool at the west end of the
south impoundment. But, shorebird numbers appear to have decreased.
