Unless I am mistaken the killing or interferring of ANY bird or its eggs
(introduced exotics specifically excluded) is illegal and insightment to do so
probably equally so.
That is generally true. However, exceptions are often permitted for the
conservation of ESA listed species, limiting crop depredations, wildlife
research,
hunting, and other purposes.
Thousands of cowbirds have been trapped and killed on the Huron National
Forest in Michigan to enhance the nesting success of the Kirtland's warbler.
Permits have been issued to kill several species of blackbirds to limit
depredations on agricultural operations, principally rice farming. Permits are
issued
to kill resident Canada geese or destroy their eggs in situations where they
have become a public nuisance.
I was not suggesting that an individual can take migratory birds at will
without the proper permit.
