One of those birding moments as I was heading south on Rt. 1 in Alexandria
around 1:30pm. Stopped at a red light where Boswell crosses RT. 1 - entrance to
Home Depot parking lot - a Coopers Hawk came right thru the intersection at
windshield level (with the green light) - I was able to watch it scatter a
flock
of ROck PIgeons in the Home Depot lot but lost it in all the commotion. Just
as my light turned green, the Coops came back thru the intersection - empty
taloned, against the light and, miraculously avoiding being intercepted by a
windshield, flew up to perch in a tree in the vacant lot on the SE corner of
the
intersection...after going on to Sherwood Hall Rd. I swung back thru the
neighborhood to find the hawk had moved over one tree, but was able to park in
the
vacant lot and confirm my ID...Rich Rieger
