Are there any knowledgeable volunteers out in VA-bird land who do not =
agree with closing the islands willing to make themselves available to =
interviews and calls from the press? Mr. Brinkley? Ms. Heath? What =
about Harry Armisted? Others?
Please contact me off line with the appropriate phone numbers to reach =
you over the weekend and the next few days. If you want to make this =
easy for reporters, you've got to give them information.

Subject: [va-bird] Re: Support for CBBT island birding
Paul and others on VA BIRD,
I think you hit the nail on the head. The question of security concerns =
are obviously relevant to the movement of US Naval vessels. The CBBT =
islands are natural platforms for potential illegal activities. BUT, so =
are fishing boats co-located next to these islands. It is not logical =
to enforce a ban on one location and not the other, esp. given that =
there is no current or past evidence of problems. But, clearly, it is =
easier to control access to the islands than to make changes to the =
patterns of thousands of fishermen.
Only the responses of thousands of birders and nature lovers will gain =
the attention of the decision makers. Please make your thoughts known =
to those in charge as well as our Governor and federal legislators. In =
particular, Virginia Sen. Warner is a very influential politician on =
Capitol Hill with a history of listening to his constituents.
