A vist to Hunting Creek Friday May 24, at about 2:30 pm, shortly after low
tide, revealed mud flats galore, but almost no birds. Not even the usual
gulls were around, much less shorebirds. There were a handful of blue
herons, an osprey in the distance, but that was about it.
The trip was saved when a flotilla of Canada goslings - 36 in fact, swan out
from under the Stone Bridge bound for the bay and river, being
escorted-chaparoned-guarded by four adult geese.
Neither Don Stein nor I have ever seen that many goslings under supervision
of that sort. I seem to recall something about communal raising of
goslings,but nothing like this.
Any other reports?
