Hola,
On Wednesday 30 March, Bob Abrams and I saw a Common Raven on Meetze Road
(Route 643, I think), which runs from Warrenton to Calverton/Midland, in
Fauquier County. On 24 and 25 March, I saw a bird in this location that I
thought
was a raven, but blew it off as something else. Why I'm mentioning this is
that there is a Vulcan quarry at this location, which makes me suspicious that
there is a pair nesting there. Between the cliffs and the structures at the
quarry, plus the proximity to the Fauquier Landfill (just a few miles), it
seems like a suitable - if not out of place - place for them to breed.
Down the road a bit is Germantown Reservoir at Crockett Park, and there we
had an adult male Purple Martin and an Osprey, but no waterfowl or divers on
the lake.
Cheers,
Todd
