September 20 is probably close to the normal departure date for
nighthawks in northern V instead of a late date. In the four years I have
watched migrating nighthawks at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax City my departure
dates have been- 10-03-99,9-24-00, 9-22-01 and 9-23-02. At
Tysons Corner where they feed at night the last dates I have seen nighthawks
are 10-21-99, 10-04-00, 10-05-01 and so far 9-30-02. I was there last night
10-01, but didn't see any. With the warm weather now I expect to see some
later this week.
