I birded Blandy Farm this morning, Sunday 6/29/03, from 6:30 to 8:30,
and found the Common Moorhen and a dozen Wood Ducks. This was my first
time to this beautiful park of rolling hills covered in fields of yellow
and purple wildflowers. Habitat includes wetlands, ponds, fields, and
some woods. I hiked along a ridge top and found BAOR, OROR, Northern
Bobwhite, Eastern Meadowlark, etc. I found a pair of Kestrel in the
field to the right of the entrance and many, many Eastern Bluebirds,
having fledged from all the nestboxes in the fields. (This made me quite
happy, since my bluebird trial here in Vienna has been slow this year.)
I heard Acadian Flycatcher, and a Wood Thrush calling from the woods at
I left. I totaled 35 species in a couple of hours.
