[va-bird] Common Loons, Virginia Beach, June 24, 2006

I saw two Common Loons while walking on the beach on the Chesapeake Bay
yesterday morning about 6 AM. They were near the Lynnhaven Fishing Pier. One,
in breeding plumage, was actively feeding. The other, in non-breeding plumage,
was drifting, usually with its head underwater. They were still in the area
when I returned about 7 AM. I also saw at least four Great Blue Herons flying
in towards the shore, and several Barn Swallows and Purple Martins coursing
above the dune grass along with other birds commonly seen along this part of
the Chesapeake shoreline.
