A Common Loon in mostly basic plummage was observed today (5/23) on Hidden
Valley Lake near the top of Brumley Mountain west of Abingdon in Washington
Co., Va.
This bird is within a couple of days of the last average date for the species
to linger in Virginia before heading north. It was found by Ron Harrington and
Wallace Coffey.
It is possibly later than the latest published spring date for Southwest
Virginia. If anyone knows of anything later, please let us know.
It is usually gone from the region by late April toearly May.
Let's go birding.....
