I love this bird list! Being the "beginner" birder that I am, I still hadn't
been able to add a loon to my life list despite multiple trips to VA Beach
(CBBT tunnel area) and to Chincoteague.
But, before I left for the weekend, at 6:15am on Saturday morning, I headed
down to the lake to hopefully see my first loon. And, just as promised - there
he was - the ONLY waterfowl on the lake! He was putting on a show as well -
cleaning himself, sitting up and flapping his wings, scooping up water in his
bill and pouring it over his back...
I only stayed for about 5 minutes (I wish I could've stayed all day!), but it
was well worth the trip.
Thanks to Edna - I never would've gotten to see this bird so close-up if it
weren't for this list and the wonderful posts!

This afternoon about 4:30 we were surprised by a lone loon swiming and
diving in the man-made lake at the corner of Van Dorn Street and
Kingstown Parkway.
