Hello all,
We had 20 people on this morning's birdwalk along Buttermilk Trail in Reston
that was sponsored by Reston Association, The Bird Feeder, and Audubon Society
of Northern Virginia. It was ably led by Andy Rabin.
A major find was a COMMON LOON at Lake Fairfax Park (a Fairfax County Park). In
addition to the Loon, we saw DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS and a BELTED KINGFISHER.
Early in the walk we spotted RED SHOULDERED HAWKS building a nest, and later on
we watched one COOPERS HAWK eating breakfast while the other very diligently
carried sticks to a nest under construction.
Among the usuals we found BROWN CREEPERS, WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCHES, YELLOW
RUMPED WARBLERS, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, and at least one GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLET.
Good birding to all,
Jay Hadlock
